TORONTO, ON: Barbara Vallis, a Canada Cartage employee, is launching another initiative to raise money for a cause very close to her heart. Vallis will participate in the 2016 Enbridge® Ride to Conquer Cancer® on June 11th and 12th, a two-day cycling event where she will travel over 200 kilometres from Toronto to Niagara Falls to raise money for cancer research. This will be Vallis’ third year participating in the event. In 2015, she raised over $10,000 for cancer research and in 2016, she’s hoping to raise even more. Vallis works hard to raise money for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre by fundraising with her wreaths for hope, selling homemade scarves, and annual spring raffle. Vallis’ latest initiative, “Banner for Hope” will travel over the next couple of months to Canada Cartage terminals across the country to collect signatures for a Toonie donation. She hopes to collect 1,500 signatures and raise $3,000 by engaging employees across the country. Canada Cartage has generously offered to match dollar for dollar to help her reach her goal. When asked why she is doing this? Vallis replied “We need to continue our fight against cancer. I’ve had several family members, friends, and colleagues affected by cancer and I know the research money is working—it’s saving lives. I’m lucky because I’m healthy so I want to do my part and give back. It’s the least I can do.”
